This is the thickest layer of snow in years. Many of Koyasan’s trademark views are made even more beautiful against the pure white of fresh snow. Nature feels even larger in this weather. Garan in a mist of snow. Hopeful and determined – petitioners spin a temple known for granting wishes. Red torii gates half buried. The tree looks like it’s growing out of a pile of snow, as we looked out over the roof of our temple. The roads have been cleared, but the snow keeps falling. The gates to Koyasan.
