Where next? Is a question travellers ask themselves frequently, and at any point from deep within a current trip, to however long after it takes after to recover from it.

There are many different ways to travel. My first travel blog, Where Next Australia, documented a road-trip around the Great Southern Land as I saw my home country in the same way that many international tourists do: at speed, compromising between must-sees and might-see-laters, and experiencing a mixture of travel exhaustion and euphoria.

Living in Japan from 2006, we have been able to take slower pace, day-tripping and overnighting through 46 of the 47 prefectures (will get to Okinawa eventually), enjoying the variety each season brings, the food and the festivals. Where Next Japan will showcase my photography and impressions of the destinations we visit, as well as try and give some practical access and price information (which of course, can change at any time).

Where next? Is also a question regarding Japan’s future post the 3.11 disaster which proved how vulnerable and dangerous nuclear power is. I believe in the people of Japan’s resiliency, though I have grave concerns about the ability of the government and industry to protect human life in this country. The next few years will be difficult ones for Japan, and I, along with many other commentators and citizens, can’t be certain which direction the country will go.

    I’ve discovered we have a few things in common… both from Australia,living in Japan, sat JLPT-N3, and, sadly, both affected by the earthquake. I was in Koryiama at the time and had to relocate, too. Can’t believe it’s been over 2 years, hey.
